                                               Sylvia Bouscaren
                                                    July 3, 2026
After 104 years, Sylvia went home to her dear Jesus on the wings
of angels.

Born in Suffren, NY she attended the Baldwin School in Bryn
Mawr, PA and graduated from Bennington College in 1944. She lived
in New York City and Beaufort, SC until she married Jack Hunter of
Syracuse and moved to Cazenovia, where they raised their three
children, Wendy, Margot and John.

A turning point in her life was her conversion to Catholicism in
1958, which brought joy to her life ever since. On three occasions
she traveled to Portugal to visit the Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima as well as a visit to Lourdes, France. For the past 30 years she has attended the traditional Latin Mass at Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Warners.

Deciding to return to school in her mid-forties, she obtained a Master’s Degree in Library Science from Syracuse University and spent time working at the Syracuse Public Library in the art department. In 1991 she married Tony Bouscaren, a wellknown political science professor at LeMoyne College, with whom she shared many happy years of travel and vibrant political conversation.

Sylvia loved nature and outdoor activities. She enjoyed skiing throughout America and Europe, camping and hiking in the Adirondacks, playing tennis, and was an avid gardener, creating beautiful gardens wherever she called home, as well as having an exceptional eye for flower arranging, for which she won many ribbons. She was an active member of both the Syracuse Garden Club and the Cazenovia Club.

Sylvia will be missed by her children, Wendy (Hubert) Schriebl of South Londonderry, VT, Margot (Larry) Rowland of Beaufort, SC, and John (Cindy) Hunter of Cazenovia; as well as five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers who became her friends and brought sunshine into her life.

The Requiem Mass will be offered on Monday, July 13, 2026 at 10:00 am at Blessed Virgin Mary Church, in Warners, NY.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 2656 Warners Rd., Warners, NY 13164. https://blessedvirginmary-priory.com/en
