A Legacy of Faith
Preserving A Great Tradition
For centuries, Traditional Catholicism shaped civilization—-founding hospitals, schools, universities, and nurturing the arts and sciences, all to glorify God.
At Blessed Virgin Mary Church, we continue this sacred mission. Our parish and Mater Dei Academy provide a location in Central New York where families live their faith and children receive a classical, Christ centered education.
Our priests, members of the Priestly Society of Saint Pius X, offer the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass as it was celebrated prior to the 1960s and teach the virtues, values, and sanctity of family life essential to a flourishing society.
Our Humble Beginnings
In 1985, an SSPX priest began traveling to Syracuse, NY to offer the Traditional Latin Mass to a small group of faithful Catholic families praying for a permanent church. Through many Rosaries and perseverance, a church was purchased in 1987 and named Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God.
In 1993, the parish founded Blessed Virgin Mary Mother of God Academy in the church basement to provide children with a strong Catholic education rooted in the Tradition.
As the school grew, a property in Warners, NY was purchased, and in 2000 Bishop Fellay approved the establishment of a priory, allowing for daily Mass. The academy officially moved to Warners in 2007.
In 2018, parish operations were transferred to the Warners property. The parish became Blessed Virgin Mary Church and Priory, and the school was renamed Mater Dei Academy — its original intended name.
BVM Building Project - An Interim Church for Today - A Permanent Church for the Future
Our parish has grown and our Chapel can only accommodate 150 people.. We now have four (4) Masses celebrated on Sunday. In addition, we are also supporting four (4) mission chapels. However, when celebrating specific sacraments, we must transform our gymnasium into a worship area, or ask the Syracuse Diocese if we can “borrow” a Church. We are in need of a church which will allow us to reduce the number of Masses on Sunday so we can better accommodate our mission chapels, as well as, accommodate a fully functioning Priory.
Our academy is also growing. Once the parish moves into the new building, the academy can use more fully the accommodations the purchased school building affords. Space is limited now but hopefully not for long!
We are in the process of building an interim church which will eventually be transformed into a dormitory for our young men when we are able to build a full-sized church to honor Our Lord Jesus. All in God's time. We pray the dream comes true soon!
This is your opportunity to leave a lasting legacy — to help us build a church that will inspire and form generations of faithful Catholics
